OPEN NIGHT

The Gateway hope to run an Open Night on September 8th in their premises on the Old Gilford Road, to welcome anyone interested in joining the group. We are constantly seeking new members with an interest in drama. So if you have an interest in acting, helping backstage or have a keen interest in sound or lights you will be made most welcome. So come a long at 8pm and join the gang. More details in due course.

Gateway stalwart Graham Fenton is to make his debut as director with Derek Benfield’s ‘First Things First’ which will be staged at various venues arond the province in September, culminating with two performances in Portadown Town Hall  Theatre in October.

Pete and George are old friends. In fact, such good old friends that George has been Pete’s best man at both of his weddings. Pete, now happily married to Sarah, is appalled when George arrives with the news that his first wife Jessica was not killed in a climbing accident as they had thought but is alive and well and keen to resume her life with Pete! This unexpected revelation leads to a series of hilarious situations as Pete and George try to find a way out of this desperate plight without upsetting either of Pete’s wives or his second wife’s powerful mother.

The cast are in rehearsal at present and  ticket information will be released in due course.

Ladies Day was a good night for all

December 22, 2009

Ruth McKinley chose ‘Ladies Day’ by Amanda Whittington to be the Gateway’s spring production. This was staged in Portadown Town Hall, May 14th and 15th: and  performed at  the Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen 18th-19th June.

Planning a 'Ladies Day' at the races.

Work, love and life are one hard slog for the factory working foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. Their luck changes when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot in York. Out go the hairnets and overalls as the girls do themselves up and head for the races. As the day unfolds, the champagne flows, secrets spill out and their horses keep winning. By the last race, the girls are on course for a life-changing win.

The final curtain came down on our 27th Pantomime on Saturday 30th January and a very successful three week run. Sam Cree (1928-1980)

Sam Cree pictured with the cast of Sink or Slim.
Sam Cree,
is probably Northern Ireland’s most popular playwright, although no longer with us his comedies are guaranteed to ‘pack them in.’ The Gateway Theatre is regarded as some of the best exponents of his plays and a little known fact is that they did premier one of his plays, ‘Sink or Slim,’ something they are justly proud of. The above picture was taken when Sam visited the cast of ‘Sink or Slim.’
