Ruth McKinley has chosen to produce ‘Ladies Day’ by Amanda Whittington as the group’s spring production and it is hoped to take it to LaGrange in Georgia, USA early April.
The Gateway has a strong group of talented women in their midst and Ruth thinks this is the perfect play to ‘showcase’ their talent.
Work, love and life are one hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. Their luck changes when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot in York. Out go the hairnets and overalls as the girls do themselves up and head for the races. As the day unfolds, the champagne flows, secrets spill out and their horses keep winning. By the last race, the girls are on course for a life-changing win.

Our 27th Pantomime is to be the classic fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty.’  This production will run for three weeks in January and under the guidance of director Millie O’Kasili auditions were  held in Portadown Town Hall on Monday 14th September and the turnout was very encouraging. The cast have now started rehearsals.  Ticket information will be released shortly.

Mrs Margaret Burke is to make her debut as a producer with the Gateway Theatre with this year’s Christmas production, which will be the ever popular Noel Coward’s ‘Bithe Spirit.’  The performances are in Portadown Town Hall on Friday 11th December and Saturday 12th December and curtain goes up at 8pm. Tickets are now on sale from Winnies’ Newsagents in Woodhouse Street and Wray Cleaners in Edward Street. Ticket price is £7 and includes festive mince pie and mulled wine.

Sam Cree, is probably Northern Ireland’s most popular playwright, although no longer with us his comedies are guaranteed to ‘pack them in.’ The Gateway Theatre is regarded as some of the best exponents of his plays and a little known fact is that they did premier one of his plays, ‘Sink or Slim,’ something they are justly proud of.
